The Atari Football Restoration Site is up and running!  This site is intended as an aide for arcade collectors that are attempting to restore a 1978 2-player Atari Football video arcade game.

Each section offers valuable information regarding the game and restoration tips  I have learned over the past few years. When possible, I have included photos and diagrams from other people that are restoring their games, as well as my attempts at restoring my own game.  Links to sites that can provide artwork or hardware are also included.

Feel free to offer suggestions for the site, or send in information on restoring the Atari Football game.  Any copyrighted material presented on these pages are the property of their respective owners.

In pursuit of Artwork PDF Print E-mail

I've been working on trying to get ALL of the artwork for the game reproduced.  This would be a great resource for people trying to restore their games.

I talked with Rich at This Old Game.  He told me he had to push back the production date for the Side Art, but that it should be out sometime in August.  Phoenix Arcade already makes the Control Panel Overlay (and it's GREAT!).

That still leaves: (1) The Coin Door Price Insert, (2) the Monitor Bezel, (3) The Monitor Glass Artwork, (4) The Play-Select artwork on plastic, and the (5) Wood-grain siding.

I suffered a setback with the electronics today.  I was hooking up new speakers for the game, but they didn't work.  I hooked up the old ones, but still no sound.  I started working on that problem...then noticed parts of the screen were gibberish.  This was the area where the score and timer are, although the playfield looked fine.  In the process of troubleshooting, I blew a fuse in the power supply.

Spent an hour going to Radio Shack, Lowe's and Home Depot, but couldn't find a replacement.  I'll have to go the Fry's to find one, but it will have to wait until Sunday, since stores will be closed (and we have company coming over) for the 4th of July.

Well, I did get the electronics up and running again.  I had a hard time finding the exact fuse to replace the blown one.  I could find the right amps, but not the correct voltage.  I contacted some of the guys on the KLOV board and they told me that I needed the exact match for the amps, but the a higher rated voltage was okay.  Good thing, too.  Because I looked EVERYWHERE here in Houston AND on the internet to find the exact match.  Anyway, put in the new fuses and it's up and running again.  I still have to fix the speakers, because there is no sound right now.

I had Cory Roberts over the other night and we played a 3:00 game.  It was exhausting!  We were both huffing and puffing and started to sweat.  Great game!

Still searching for wood grain side-art PDF Print E-mail

The search is still on for a decent wood-grain plastic vinyl.  The original one used for the game is no longer produced.  I have had no luck in finding a color and pattern to match it.

I'm leaning towards a plastic laminate called mila-naturel.  I have a sample of the material, but I'm waiting on some darker samples that should be arriving in a few days.  The roll is wide enough to accommodate the game, plus it has a good look.

There are still some details to examine before purchase, but it looks like my best options at this point.
